Welcome to our blog! Here we’ll be posting news and information, as well as facts and figures surrounding the realms of chiropractic work, acupuncture, and whole-body health. Here at Performance Chiropractic, it’s our priority to ensure that you’re at peak health. If you’re suffering from pain, we’re here to help you fix those pains. If, for instance, you suffer from recurring headaches, we may be able to help.
In fact, that’s our topic for the day. Let’s take a moment to talk about headaches, and what can trigger a headache. In our next blog, we’ll dive into how chiropractic can help relieve headaches.
Headache Triggers
Headaches can be caused by numerous sources. For this reason it may be difficult to determine the source (or sources) of your headaches. However, it’s best to mitigate all sources of headaches to see real change. Headaches can be caused due to all of the following triggers:
TV And Computer Time
If you plop down on the couch for a few hours with the tele each and every night, you may be doing your brain a disservice, and headaches may be the first indicator. Minimize your TV and computer time, and be sure to take a break from the screen every 30 minutes or so to give your eyes and brain a break.
Lack Of Sleep
If you have insomnia, or you simply don’t give yourself enough time to get sleep, sleeplessness may be the source of your headaches. Exercise, a healthy diet, and cutting caffeine before bed can help you capture some Z’s.
Caffeine & Alcohol
Alcohol dehydrates the body, and that’s an obvious source for headaches. Caffeine and lack of caffeine if your body craves its daily dose, can both cause headaches. Again, avoid caffeine before bed, and keep drinking to a minimum.
Poor Diet
The body relies on a balanced diet. With an improper diet, bodily systems begin to slip, and the body begins to deteriorate. Headaches may indicate that your brain isn’t getting the nutrition it desperately needs. It may also indicate that your diet is full of junk that hurts brain and body health. Stay mindful that you are what you eat.
Overstimulation
TV screens and computers are two examples of overstimulation. Bright lights and loud noises can also cause headaches. Even a strong smell can be a source of overstimulation. Be mindful of these triggers, and avoid them as much as possible.
Neck Tension
Any neck tension can trigger a headache. Take note of how you carry yourself throughout the day. Keep an aligned posture and stretch your muscles, including neck muscles, throughout the day. Don’t overstretch or overextend.
Staying Sedentary
The body is built to move. Staying stagnant for hours on end (aside from sleep) can weaken muscles and cause spinal misalignment. Stay active everyday, and take up a low-impact exercise routine to keep in shape.
Chiropractic For Headaches
Headaches can ruin your day, and they can keep you up at night. Chiropractic work may help you to relieve and overcome headaches.
