Symptoms of neuropathy, (also known as peripheral neuropathy), currently affect over 20 million people in the United States. This medical condition results from damaged nerve cells rom many different causes, but is often a side affect of other associated conditions such as autoimmune diseases, diabetes, etc.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF NEUROPATHY?
Early stages of neuropathy for many patients can begin with a tingling or numbness which can occur in their fingers and toes. Unfortunately over time, the numbness begins to spread and may also develop into sharp or prickly type pains or numbness and tingling in the arms and legs.
A patient can also have numbness, weakness, tingling or burning pain that evolves into muscle spasms and/or difficulty moving their arms or legs over time. As neuropathy progresses, patients may also feel that their balance is being lost more often, feelings and sensations can diminish, and atrophy can begin to set it.
The symptoms of neuropathy can vary based upon the type of nerves that are damaged, ranging from autonomic nerves, motor nerves, and sensory nerves. With this in mind, our advanced neurological testing for stress on motor and autonomic nerves can help better diagnose and treat the proper areas to help restore proper function for the patient. Since neuropathy affects the nervous system as well as the bodies ability to balance and heal, it is important to seek help and treat neuropathy as soon as you can to prevent further damage and maximize the healing process.
Neuropathy can be severe and quite painful with the most common forms of neuropathy including diabetic neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and also sciatica which are actually quite prevalent in adults. Because of this, some people may be suffering from neuropathy, and not even know they have it.
Neuropathy can also be a side effect or caused by other medical conditions. Regardless, it is our mission to restore function efficiently and effectively to put the odds of natural healing and overcoming this condition in the favor of the patient.
To treat nerve pain, Chiropractic and acupressure (gentle form of Acupuncture with finger pressure) has been shown to be highly effective and many patients have seen tremendous results in our office.
HOW DOES CHIROPRACTIC CARE WORK FOR NEUROPATHY?
Chiropractic care for neuropathy focuses on removing the stress on the joints and other areas around the nerves that cause inflammation and swelling which can irritate the nerves causing nerve pain. Eliminating the stress on these joints decreases inflammation, swelling, and allows healing to begin and pain to diminish. Many patients are looking not only to reduce their pain but to also improve their overall quality of life without relying on medication. To do this, we tailor each chiropractic treatment to meet the needs of every individual patient based upon our in depth examination process.
